We are currently witnessing the integration of two long- lost relatives: on the one hand general purpose computing and its networking backbone, the Internet, and on the other hand embedded computing. However, the development of applications exploiting this merged infrastructure is currently exceedingly difficult. The goal of this project is hence to investigate unified concepts, methods, and software infrastructures that facilitate the efficient development of applications that span and integrate the Internet and the embedded world. The key metric of success for our project is the effort required for development of robust, interoperable, and scalable applications in the Internet of Things (IoT).

Outcomes that we are currently integrating:

• SmartServiceProxy - aggregate semantic sensor data into representations of real-world things called Semantic Entities, and provide RESTful direct access to them. Not yet publicly accessible only because of privacy issues (sensor readings come directly from work offices). Check out more about it.
• ÜberDust - a data storage and brokerage web service for IoT data providers, data consumers and application developers
• IDRA protocol architecture - open-source communication architecture for networked embedded systems
• LD4Sensors - application that generates annotations for provided sensor-related details, while using the SPITFIRE ontology. It is currently in a Beta release and it is accessible by either an HTML form or a REST API.
